When I joined MSC, one of the first things that I was struck by was how amazing it was to see how our onboard teams celebrated their wins - achieving budgets, celebrating birthdays, accomplishing a huge cargo etc.

Team photos marking special occassions was always part of the day to day routine!
It really struck me as being such an important part of their onboard team life that I decided to do something about it to share it far and wide. We did a number of initiatives but probably the one with the most impact was creating a place online on social media where we could share all of their success stories. This is how MSC Boutiques facebook and Instagram pages were born. We shared everything - promotions, new ship opening teams, employee of the month, service recognition, achieving target etc. The ways that teams shared was truly incredible.
And that spirit, that energy and that recognition is something that has never left me. It is the biggest difference from cruise retail teams to any other part of the retail industry around the world - passion like no other!

Cruise retail teams deliver a type of teamwork, a unity, a sense of achievement like nothing else in our industry. Celebrating success is taken to a whole other level that nowhere else in retail can compete with!
It is hugely important. To me, the chance for individual and team achievements to be shared with the world is one thing that I know I can do, and it is something I really love to do. It takes coming from the shopfloor to understand how important the recognition of achieving of targets and goals are.
So that's why it was so important to carry on this. In a continued stream of bad news, we know that we can share the best and deliver the best of the great news coming from the achievements of onboard teams. That is what we will do with #Shoppies hub. We will continue to share all successes as we did before, all achievements as we did before and all recognitions far and wide!
This is the super power of shoppies across the ocean, and one which we shall continue to deliver as best as we can!
